What happens if someone is mean to me? Is it my fault? Should I talk to someone about it? What if I do, and they don’t listen to me? These are the themes that are addressed in What Should I Do?

What Should I Do? helps children understand the difference between accidents and purposeful harm and encourages them not to carry their worries around with them all day. Through the use of child-drawn images and clever-rhyming, What Should I Do? let's children know, in a way that is age appropriate and easy for them to understand, that accidents happen "to humans big and small" and what to say to "someone you trust" when they are not quite sure what they should do.

Why children need this book?

Whether you are a teacher, parent, carer or a professional working with children, this book provides two things:

1. Understanding for all children about the differences between accidents and purposeful harm - the doorway to conversation is opened by reading the book and the flow of the conversation should be adult-led depending on the child's age and level of understanding. These conversations could be just what a child needs to encourage them to communicate their worries to their trusted adult.

 2. Opportunity for children who are already carrying around shame that is not theirs to carry to speak-up and communicate to someone safe.  Recommended Ages 2 - approx. 10 years old.
